This 1950 booklet devotes two full pages to each of eight popular tourist regions reached by the Union Pacific system. Not coincidentally, these regions are also each featured in Union Pacific’s post-war color vacation series of booklets, including individual booklets for California, Colorado, Las Vegas & Hoover Dam, the Pacific Northwest, Southern Utah, Sun Valley, Yellowstone, and dude ranches.

Unlike most pre-war Union Pacific booklets, all of the photos in this booklet are in color. Many of the photos will be familiar as they were used on UP menus, postcards, calendars, and other advertising. The booklet also features two pages of interior and exterior photos of Union Pacific streamliners and a few graphics at least some of which were by the Willmarths, who also did the Your America series of paintings. The surprising thing is that this booklet isn’t named “Western Wonderlands,” which is the title of similar booklets issued by the Union Pacific before the war and brochures after the war.
