When the Union Pacific introduced the color-photo format to its series of travel booklets, it added several new titles on top of its previous California/Colorado/Pacific Northwest/Yellowstone/Zion series. This 1947 booklet features western dude ranches.
More than 20 of the booklet’s 36 pages are dedicated to brief descriptions of more than 100 guest ranches reached by Union Pacific trains. Each description includes location, rates, accommodations, and activities. The weekly rates listed for some of the ranches would be considered cheap on a daily basis today; multiply prices by about 10 to get today’s dollars.
