NP Mirro-Krome Postcards

These two postcards were printed for Northern Pacific by the H.S. Crocker Company , then of Chicago. Crocker dates back to 1856, when it started a print shop in Sacramento. The company still exists but now makes and prints lids and labels for food products and pharmaceuticals.

The first card shows two of the distinctive features of the post-1955 North Coast Limited: the dome car and the on-board stewardess. From the stewardess’ hairstyle, I’d date this card to the late 1950s. By 1966, the hairstyle worn by stewardesses in NP publicity photos were very different.

Here’s a photo of downtown Portland and Mount Hood as seen from a high point in the Tualatin Hills, which Portlanders more commonly call the West Hills. Northern Pacific sent its first trains to Portland in 1883.
