Vista-Dome North Coast Limited Postcards

These oversized postcards are obviously from a completely different era than the ones presented in the last few days. I have more older postcards from the Minnesota History Center that I’ll get to soon, but these are from my own collection.

First is one of my favorite images of the North Coast Limited, one we have seen before on the “Your Northwest Adventure” booklet. In one picture, it shows both the dome interior and exterior scenery (even if the scenery is a bit imaginary). Of course, a real photo like this would only be possible if someone removed the glass from the dome. Unfortunately, there is no information about who did the artwork.

The second postcard shows the interior of the Traveller’s Rest car, Northern Pacific’s answer to Great Northern’s Ranch Car. We’ve seen a postcard showing this car before, but this one demonstrates the beverage service while the other one focused on the wall decorations.

There is nothing on these postcards to indicate a date, but they are probably from the mid to late 1950s, when the Traveller’s Rest and dome cars were introduced to the North Coast Limited.
