This 32-page booklet has 13 pages on Idaho and 13 on Utah. The inside front cover has a map of the Union Pacific system in the two states showing many branch lines that no longer exist today, including lines to Wells, NV; McCall, ID; New Meadows, ID; Park City, UT; and of course West Yellowstone.

The 26 pages of photos and text are filled with brief descriptions of individual sights and resorts with, in some cases, rates and contact information. Before these pages begin, however, a couple of opening pages are of questionable value. Page 3 has a nice, full-page photo of Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountains. “In Idaho and Utah the most striking scenic features lie inland from the main travel routes,” says a caption. “It is to these that attention is herein directed.” Attention is herein directed? Couldn’t they find a smoother way to say this?
Page 4 seems completely out of place. While other pages either have photos or maps, this one is just text — yet there is enough white space for at least one photo. The text itself is almost meaningless verbiage. It almost looks as if the booklet’s designers had an extra page left over that they didn’t know what to do with, so they just added some random material. A couple of photos would have made it much more interesting and inviting.
All in all, this is an interesting booklet whose front cover is surprisingly fresh and timeless even if some of the interior pages are of questionable value.
