We’ve already seen an SP timetable dated August, 1935, but that one was 16 pages long. This one is 48 pages and includes lots of local and branchline trains that aren’t listed on the other one. The shorter one also collapses the station index from three pages to one and reduces the timetables for each of SP’s major routes from six or seven pages down to one or two, but still has room for a page listing Pullman fares between various points.

Yesterday’s 1934 timetable promised that SP would “air-condition cars on Limited Trains,” including the Overland, Sunset, and Golden State limiteds plus the Cascade. This timetable from 17 months later advertises “completely air-conditioned trains to and from California,” including the trains listed above plus the Advance San Francisco Overland and Pacific Limited. The timetable adds that some in-California trains were air conditioned, and many other SP trains had some air-conditioned cars, generally including sleeping, dining, and lounge cars but not coaches.
Incidentally, the front covers of each of these SP timetables was generally a full-page ad, while covers such as the one shown above were actually the back cover. As I’ve previously noted, the scans for all of these SP timetables were contributed by a Streamliner Memories reader.
