This issue of West encourages people to take the “Redwood Empire Tour” via SP subsidiary Northwestern Pacific overnight from San Francisco to Eureka, then Pacific Greyhound (which was partly owned by SP) from Eureka through the redwoods to Grants Pass, where they could catch a Southern Pacific train either to the north or back to the San Francisco Bay Area. The issue is dated April 1, 1942, which apparently was too soon after Pearl Harbor for SP to acknowledge the war.

The first issue of West to mention the war was dated June, 1942. As near as I can tell, only two more issues appeared after that, so it appears the war ended the publication of this four-page periodical, which was probably intended mainly for travel agents.
With this edition, I now have eighteen of the nineteen issues of the publication that I know about. Five are dated or datable to 1940, five to 1941, and five to 1942. Four more are difficult to date and at least some of them were probably published in 1939. The only one I don’t have features southern Arizona and it was one of the 1941 issues.
