Gala Dinner Aboard the Prince George

The front cover of this menu shows a bunch of seniors looking pretty serious about eating all of the food that has been placed in front of them. None of them look particularly happy to be on board the Prince George, but maybe they are just worried that the servers will take the food away before they have had a chance to try everything on the menu. The back cover has a big white circle as if the CN restaurant department didn’t have the time or imagination to find a second photo to use on this menu.

This is the “gala dinner” menu dated August 31, 1964. According to a 1963 CN timetable, in 1964 the Prince George sailed out of Vancouver on (among other dates) August 24 and September 1, which means it also returned to Vancouver on September 1. The gala dinner was therefore the last night’s dinner on the southbound voyage.

The menu has the same range of items as yesterday’s (which was for the previous night on the same sailing). Entrées included Denver omelet, chicken liver saute, sirloin steak, baked ham, and roast duckling.
