Burlington Royal Gorge Dinner Menu

This menu advertises the Royal Gorge — the canyon, not the train — which, it says on the back, is on “the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, with which the Burlington connects at Denver.” Dated 1944, the menu offers trout, chicken, lamb, and a variety of other foods despite wartime rationing.

The blue “When the train is well filled” notice on the front is a separate sticker that unfortunately covered up the suspension bridge over the gorge in the illustration. I used Photoshop to move it out of the way. This sticker was probably only used during the war, when patronage was especially heavy due to the movement of military personnel; after the war, the railroad was much more subtle about moving people along to make room for other diners.
