The rather boring photo on the cover of this 1946 menu shows Pagosa Springs, which are supposed to be the world’s deepest mineral hot springs. A legend on the back of this menu tells of a Colonel Albert Pfieffer, who supposedly fought a knife fight to defend the rights of Ute Indians to use the Hot Springs. It turns out this legend is even less true than the claim that Pagosa means healing water.
