Union Pacific 1946 Calendar

The 1946 calendar continues with the Your American theme but uses the Willmarth paintings in place of photographs. Union Pacific commissioned one painting for each of the eleven states the railroad served plus a national map, making one for each month.

Unfortunately, my copy of this calendar is water stained and a bit torn, but you can see better images of the paintings themselves in previous posts. As with the 1945 calendar, about half the images are of scenic areas (mostly semi-imaginary) that might attract tourists, but none, of course, were used on menu covers.

According to Union Pacific timetables, UP tracks extended into Kansas City and Hannibal, Missouri, yet Missouri is not one of the eleven states illustrated in the Willmarth paintings. Perhaps UP only had trackage rights into those cities.
