SP 1941 Sunset-Golden State Timetable

This timetable unfolds to six 8″x9″ panels, the equivalent of one-fourth of the 1937 Sunset-Golden State timetable. Two of the six panels are devoted to westbound Sunset/Golden State trains and two eastbound. A fifth panel shows the West Coast of Mexico route, probably because that route meets the Sunset/Golden State route at Tucson.

The above cover makes up half of the sixth panel while the other half is used for an ad for Carlsbad Caverns. Carlsbad isn’t exactly on the Southern Pacific, so passengers had to take a 170-mile ride in an “streamlined,air-conditioned motor coach” from El Paso.

The timetable shows the Sunset Limited and Argonaut, on the Sunset route, and the Golden State Limited and Californian on the Golden State route. Also shown are the Imperial, which connects the Imperial Valley with Los Angeles, the Alamo between Houston & San Antonio, and several very local trains. The West Coast of Mexico page shows a three-day-a-week passenger train and a three-day-a-week mixed train making the 2-1/2 to 3-day trip between Nogales and Mexico City.
