Only about half the booklet is devoted to the construction of the transcontinental railroad, with the rest covering the history since that time. The booklet includes numerous black-and-white (and one color) photos and full-color paintings, including most of the Howard Fogg paintings that UP commissioned for the centennial as well as several more whose artists are not identified.
