Along with the simplified route map that first appeared on the April 1957 timetable (and shown on the October 1957 edition, SP drastically reduced the page count from 48 to 32 pages. The larger timetables had separate pages for eastbound and westbound trains; the smaller ones combined them into one page, which was made easier by the termination of some secondary trains.

Advertising was also reduced, but this timetable still has two full-page ads. Ominously for the future of passenger trains, both ads give equal weight to promoting SP’s freight service and its passenger service.
As usual for SP timetables, the image above is the back cover while the front cover has a full-page ad. The ad shows an illustration of an Alco PA in the “bloody nose” paint scheme (red nose on a grey locomotive) emerging from a tunnel in what is likely supposed to be Donner Pass in the Sierra Nevada.
