Like SP’s 1950 condensed timetable, this one is 16 pages long. The discontinuation of many local trains, however, leaves room for far more ads in the 1955 edition.

One ad brags that the streamlined Golden State is “one of America’s most modern trains.” But it didn’t have any dome cars that were found on its competitors, the City of Los Angeles and Super Chief. Another ad announces “no extra fare” on the City of San Francisco, which was probably because it had become one of only two trains on the Overland Route instead of one of several. Other ads promote the lounge cars in the Cascade and Sunset Limited even if black-and-white photos couldn’t do them justice (and the photo supposedly of the Cascade was taken in a double bedroom that could have been on any train).
