Pacific Coast Tours

Archive.org is a wonderful resource with numerous historic books, booklets, postcards, and other documents in PDF, JP2, and other formats. Unfortunately, the PDFs are sometimes hastily laid out so that the covers are in the wrong place or even cut in half. In some cases, I’ve taken the liberty of downloading the JP2s, cleaning them up a little, and creating a new PDF with pages in the proper order.

Canadian Pacific issued a booklet with this particular title for many years, and archive.org has at least a dozen different versions, including two labeled for CP’s subsidiary, the Soo Line. I believe this one is the oldest. I’m not going to post all of them here — at least, not right away — but I am doing this one to kick off about a month’s worth of Canadian Pacific and Canadian National booklets and menus, some from my collection and some from other sources such as archive.org, the Chung collection, and Parks Canada.

Despite the title and the appearance of the Empress Hotel on the cover, this booklet is not really about tours to Vancouver, Victoria, or other locations on Canada’s Pacific Coast. It has one page about steamships between Vancouver, Victoria, and Seattle (with a single paragraph on Victoria and not even that much about Vancouver), a page about trains to Portland and California, and one more about Canadian Pacific steamships to Skagway. The rest is about Banff, Lake Louise, and other Canadian Pacific resorts in the Rockies.
