More Conventioneer Menus

These three menus were used on the train chartered for the Detroit Knights Templar for their September 1949 journey to the mason’s convention in San Francisco. We’ve seen the covers before but not the interiors.

First is a breakfast menu showing Utah’s state capitol. Entrées featured fish, an omelette with diced ham, or eggs with bacon or sausage. Yesterday’s “course of empire” menu had exactly the same entrées so must have been used the same day.

Next is a dinner menu featuring the California Zephyr on the cover. Both this and the next menu have the same entrées: Colorado mountain trout, Long Island duck, and roast prime rib of beef.

Finally is a menu showing the Royal Gorge with the Royal Gorge. We’ve previously seen this menu cover used on a chartered train for American Nurseryman’s Association in July, 1949. The menu items were almost exactly the same but the names were slightly different: “Wilmore’s Colorado mountain trout” instead of just Colorado mountain trout; “Long Island duck a la bulk” instead of just Long Island duck; and “Roast prime rib of beef, Bill Smart special” instead of just roast prime rib. I wonder who Bill Smart was.
