The enthusiastically gushing comments remind us of just how revolutionary the dome cars were in the 1940s. Not only did they offer incredible views, several correspondents noted their “unusual quietness” which created a “sense of gliding on air.” The Santa Fe Hi-Level cars were also very quiet, a result of having two floors insulating the passengers from track noises.

It turns out that the train of the goddesses was involved in a horrific accident on April 3, 1947. That train was withdrawn for repairs that were not completed until August. In the meantime, stainless steel cars from Burlington’s pool were substituted. These cars included “Silver Dome,” the experimental dome car built in Burlington’s shops in 1945.
When the train of the goddesses was restored, the train of the gods was withdrawn for refurbishment and the pool cars replaced it. The refurbished trains were used for the Nebraska Zephyr and for five weeks the Twin Zephyrs were protected by pool cars.
This 8-1/2″x11″ four-page brochure was further folded in thirds for mailing purposes, probably to travel and ticket agents. The address field is blank but a small round sticker holding the folder closed has been torn in half to allow us to read it.
