Yellowstone Falls Twin Zephyr Menu

Here’s another Twin Zephyr menu, this one dated 1950. By that time, Burlington had replaced the 1936 Twin Zephyrs with the world’s first domeliner in scheduled service, consisting of a baggage-refreshment car, four dome coaches, a diner and dome-observation car. This menu, of course, was used in the diner.

The menu has four table d’hôte entrées, two plate meals, and plenty of entrées on the a la carte side. The Twin Zephyrs must have catered to a business clientele, as the center of the menu also offers cocktails, wines, cognac (which the menu explains is French brandy), and several other alcoholic beverages (with plenty more on the back). Thirteen-ounce bottles of Champagne or sparkling burgundy were $3 (about $32 in today’s money), more than any of the full meals, which topped out at $1.85.
