Lake Louise 1949 Dinner Menu

It is possible that the people in the canoe are the same couple who appeared strolling through flowers on the cover of a 1939 menu. If so, the man has taken off his blazer and rolled up the sleeves of his white dress shirt to paddle the canoe, but it looks like he is still wearing a tie. Actually, since this Mountaineer menu is about ten years newer, they probably aren’t the same couple.

The table d’hôte side of the menu offered halibut, cod, sole, or trout for $1.75 (about US$15 today) and beef ribs, chicken pie, or cold meats for $2 (about US$17 today), all with the usual accompaniments. The a la carte side is extensive but for some reason didn’t offer the “red brand” sirloin steaks that were found on many other menus, both before and after 1949.
