Union Pacific 1978 Calendar

Like the 1977 calendar, this one includes five railroad scenes, only four of which show trains. The fifth shows Union Pacific’s beautiful Boise train depot that was then being used by Amtrak’s Pioneer.

The 1978 calendar showed a coastal photo in February, mountain photos in March and December, and similarly scenic photos in other months. Once again, the November photo is used to show a scene near Leavenworth, Washington, which is firmly in Great Northern/Burlington Northern territory. It is a wonder that a Union Pacific photographer would venture there when there are so many attractive scenes nearer to UP tracks.

More interesting, and more within UP territory, were the July and August photos. July shows Utah’s Cart Creek Bridge, which was built in 1962 to assist construction of Flaming Gorge Dam. August pictures Mushroom Rock State Park, the location of some unusual rock formations in Kansas.
