This menu is in the same series as the ones posted a few days ago, only it is from 1968 after Atlantic Coast Line merged with Seaboard Air Line to form Seaboard Coast Line. It was used on the former ACL Florida Special. A menu previously shown here for Seaboard’s Silver Meteor uses this same style, indicating that Atlantic Coast Line’s commissary department was the one that dominated after the merger.

The items on the menu are nearly identical to the 1962 breakfast menu shown here a few days ago. Inflation reduced the value of the dollar by about 7 percent between 1962 and 1968, yet prices are either the same or have gone up by about 2.5 to 5 percent.

The one major difference I see between the two menus is the addition of shad roe to the 1968 menu. This might be because it was a seasonal item, though this menu was issued in December and the 1966 menu is dated February and at least one source says shad roe season begins in February or March.

For contrast, here is a 1970 lunch menu from the Ira Silverman Collection. Although it was also used on the former ACL Florida Special, the menu has been redesigned inside and out. The table d’hôte section is gone, replaced by a longer list of “suggestions” that include entrées, beverages, and in some cases side dishes such as soup, salad, or dessert. The center of the menu also highlights a shrimp platter and a chef’s salad. The a la carte section just has soups, appetizers, bread, desserts, and beverages.
