This menu has a completely different format from Canadian Pacific menus we’ve seen previously. While most are folded once to about 6-3/4″ x 9″ in size, this one is folded twice to about 6″ x 7″. I’ve seen one other menu in this format which has a painting of an Indian canoe and totem pole north of Vancouver, BC.

In addition to the cover, one of the outside panels advertises CP chalets and bungalow camps while the third is a beverage menu. Inside, the three panels have the standard (for 1937) “Canadian Pacific Dining Car Service” border. The left panel has a la carte appetizers and entrées while on the right is a la carte salads and desserts. The center panel is the table d’hôte menu, featuring salmon, cod, or lamb cutlets for a dollar (about US$13.30 today), chicken pot pie, eggs benedictine, or roast ribs of beef for $1.25 (US$16.60 today), and a sirloin steak or broiled chicken dinner is $1.50 (US$20.00 today).
It took me a little while, but I finally discerned that the signature on the cover painting is Ontario artist Frank Panabaker (1904-1992). He painted landscapes throughout Canada and did well enough to support himself through his art for nearly all of his life. The date of the painting under his signature appears to be 1930.
