Today is Streamliner Memories’ seventh anniversary, and for the last several years I have used this date to start posting my most recent additions to my Union Pacific menu checklist. This month I have more than 50 menus to post, many of whose covers we’ve seen in the past but which are still informative based on different interiors.

I’ll start with some menus used in Union Pacific lodges in the late 1920s and early 1940s. In those years, Bryce, Zion, and Grand Canyon lodges printed menus on cards that were about 4-1/3″x5-2/3″. Until 1934, one side of the card had a color lithograph of a scene in one of the parks (including Cedar Breaks). The menus were unpriced because the lodges were on the “American plan,” meaning the price of the guest rooms included meals. We’ve previously seen two of these; I’ll be presenting several more over the next few days.
I call this card “Grand Canyon Lodge” because the image is from the lodge and shows part of a courtyard in the foreground. But this particular card itself was used in Bryce Canyon Lodge; while very nice as a lodge, it didn’t have a scenic view like the Grand Canyon Lodge. This card is a lunch menu for June 15, 1929 and offers veal cutlet, pot roast, or cold cuts with soup, appetizer, salad, vegetables, bread, dessert, and beverage.
As of today, I’ve posted nearly 3,500 PDFs of railroad memorabilia and related documents. This includes more than 800 menus, more than 400 booklets and 400 brochures, and hundreds of postcards, blotters, and other items. More than 700 items are from Union Pacific, more than 600 Great Northern, about 350 Northern Pacific, 250 Santa Fe, and about 200 each are from Burlington, Canadian Pacific, and Southern Pacific.
