Western Vacationlands — 1946

We’ve seen a 1931 booklet and brochures from the 1950s titled “Western Wonderlands.” This 1946 brochure varies from this slightly with “Western Vacationlands.” Like the later brochures, one side of this one has panels for each of the major destinations — California, Pacific Northwest, Yellowstone, etc. — while the other side is a full page map signed Willmarth.

The map in this 1946 brochure uses a darker palette than later ones. It is possible that this one was painted by Kenneth Willmarth (who preferred to work in oils) while the later, brighter maps were painted by William Willmarth (who preferred watercolors).
