Although the cover says this is a brief history, it is actually pretty in depth. Unlike the Union Pacific histories, which glossed over that company’s nineteenth-century bankruptcy, this one doesn’t skip the financial troubles suffered by the Milwaukee after it built the Pacific Coast extension in 1908.
The Milwaukee issued this booklet in 1968. It seems highly coincidental that the Union Pacific published a history booklet that was the same format and roughly the same size the very next year. Was UP influenced by this booklet, or were they both designed by the same PR firm?
