I’m always curious to see what ranches are still operating today. I didn’t check all 30, but most of the ones I did check are gone. A few might still be operating as ranches, but no longer as dude ranches. Some may be subdivided.

Two exceptions are the HF Bar Ranch and the Paradise Ranch, both located a few miles west of Buffalo. They look like great places to stay today if you can afford $395 per night per adult (at HF Bar) or $2,660 per week per adult (at Paradise). According to the booklet, the two ranches were once affiliated, but I don’t see any indication of that today.

Inside this booklet came a brochure that unfolds into a poster describing how to bridle, saddle, and ride a horse. Today, many of the tasks on the poster are performed by ranch employees. In 1929, however, the world was barely a generation away from the time when horses were a dominant form of transportation, so the skills described in the poster were ones that many adults may have performed at some point in their lives.
