Twin Lakes & Maroon Bells

We’ve seen this photo before on the cover of a 1951 menu. The back cover of that menu, however, showed the Royal Gorge train in the Royal Gorge. This one, however, shows the Maroon Bells, using the same photo used on the front cover of this menu.

Until now, all of the Rio Grande photo menus from the early 1950s that I had seen showed either the Royal Gorge or the California Zephyr on the back cover, so I thought they all did. This one proves otherwise.

Mountain trout on this menu is joined by baked duckling and roast sugar-cured ham as the main entrées on the table d’hôte side. These are also on the a la carte side for 65¢ to 75¢ less. The menu is dated November 8, 1950, seven months after yesterday’s Vista Dome menu.
