City of Portland Desk Pad

This 13-1/2″x21″ desk pad is made of the same material as blotters, indicating it was made for use during the fountain pen era. Since “domeliner” dates it to no earlier than 1954, and it is likely that the growing use of ballpoint pens would render it obsolete by 1965. So I’ll date it to roughly 1960.

The image above shows a faint reverse image of the winged domeliner on the right side. This is soaked through from printing on the back, which is identical to printing on the front (though it is impossible to tell which is the front and which is the back). Apparently, the red ink soaked through a little faster than the blue ink.
