Rio Grande Mt. Timpanogos Lunch Menu

The front cover of this 1950 menu shows Mount Timpanogos, which the back cover notes was known to the Indians as the “sleeping princess.” It does appear to look like the profile of a woman in recline with her head on the right — except that the internet says the head is on the left.

The back cover has a photo of what appears to be the heavyweight Scenic Limited passing through the Royal Gorge, which seems strange since that train was replaced by the lightweight Royal Gorge four years before this menu was issued. Inside, the menu was printed for the “Young Men’s Institute All America Tour,” en route from San Francisco to New York City. The unpriced menu offered a choice of cold salmon, fried chicken, veal cutlets, tomato stuffed with chicken salad, or roast leg of lamb, all with soup, salad, potatoes, corn on the cob, bread, dessert, and beverage.
