Southern Pacific 1943 Children’s Menu

The centerfold of this little booklet has room for two simple meals each for breakfast, dinner, and supper, plus some a la carte items. Dinner entrées included lamb chop or egg; supper included bacon and egg or hot vegetable plate.

Four other pages present nursery-rhyme-like introductions to railroad employees–engineer, fireman, conductor, porter, brakeman, waiter, and cook–plus some others associated with mealtime: farmer, cow, chicken, spinach, and “future queens and presidents,” which apparently referred to the children choosing from the menu. Just why SP thought young girls in America might become a queen is left unexplained.
