Railroad employee magazines such as this one aren’t usually passenger memorabilia, but this particular issue contains a seven-page article on Southern Pacific’s San Francisco Bay ferries. The article includes nearly two dozen photos, at least one of which dates back to 1890, plus drawings from as far back as 1850.

The magazine also briefly mentions Lucius Beebe’s first book, High Iron, which is considered the first railroad photo book. The book “is sure to find favor with the evergrowing legions of railroad fans over the country,” says the magazine, bragging that Beebe called SP’s Daylight “perhaps the most beautiful of all train designs.”
