Along the Union Pacific: 1953

This booklet is pretty similar to the 1950 edition that was presented here a couple of years ago. The biggest difference appears to be that the front cover is actually on the front instead of the back as it was in 1950.

Both booklets start out with a brief history of the railroad illustrated by stills from the 1939 Cecil B. DeMille movie, Union Pacific. Both that movie and John Ford’s Stagecoach were based on stories by Oregon writer Ernest Haybox. While he was apparently a good writer, the story that went into the movie had little to do with the reality of building the first transcontinental railroad.
