Sometime between yesterday’s 1957 timetable and this one, the Grand Canyon lost its Amarillo section. The left the San Francisco Chief as the only train to serve Santa Fe’s southern corridor.

It also left Santa Fe with two pages to fill, since it retained the 36-page format. It did it by adding branchline trains that had been excluded or only briefly mentioned in previous traveler’s timetables. These included Ash Fork to Phoenix, Newton-Dodge City, and Amarillo-Lubbock.
Rather than list a month and day on the cover, this cover just says “Spring 1959.” The fine print says that the timetable was effective on April 24.
It looks as though the Chief’s eastbound schedule was revised right after the fall 1958 merger of the Super Chief and El Capitan.
