In 1891, a man named J.A. Hoskins donated a circa 1834 locomotive named Mississippi to Illinois Central to be a historical display. The locomotive’s origins are unclear but it certainly never operated on the Illinois Central before this donation. IC displayed it at the Columbian Exposition of 1893 and later gave it to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. It may be that the top locomotive on the menu is meant to represent the Mississippi, but if so the railroad was rather cheeky to include it.
