This calendar includes three photos of trains, and once again two of them are on the former Western Pacific. Two show some of UP’s 686 SD40-2 locomotives hauling freight trains over ex-WP tracks. The third (below) shows two of Union Pacific’s 257 General Electric C40-8 locomotives pulling a freight train near Green River, Wyoming.

The only other photo with railroad content shows Spokane’s Riverfront Park with the clock tower of the former Great Northern depot — which is either an embarrassing oversight or another photographic “invasion” of GN/BN territory. Spokane once had three train stations, but unfortunately there is nothing left of the UP station.
Three photos are in Missouri Pacific territory, and two of them are quite nice. One is a night photo of the San Antonio Riverwalk showing a gaily lit restaurant with outdoor tables. Another shows a steamboat on silent display in Jacksonport State Park, Arkansas. Unfortunately, the boat, the Mary Woods No. 2, has since sunk.
The less-interesting photo shows the state capitol at Jefferson City, Missouri. While I suppose this photo would impress Missourians, most state capitols frankly look alike, which is why the only other capitol to be found on a Union Pacific calendar was Colorado’s.
This would be the last calendar featuring photos by UP’s stable of photographers. The railroad shut down its photo department in 1989, probably as a cost-cutting measure, which is strange as the economy was just picking up after a lengthy recession.
