A Streamliner Memories reader contributed this 1927 timetable, which is full of information and schedules for trains as the Golden Age of train travel was waning. Thanks to competition from the automobile, intercity passenger train ridership peaked in about 1920. Union Pacific and other railroads responded by speeding up their schedules; on one day in November, 1926, UP, Santa Fe, and Southern Pacific all reduced the times of their premier Chicago-West Coast trains to 63 hours.

There are plenty more, going up to trains 563 & 564 Owl, which seems to be an overnight Seattle-Portland train with cars going to San Francisco, Los Angeles Denver, Kansas City, and Hoquiam, Washington. The Seattle-Portland leg of this train took seven hours for an average speed of 26 mph; of course, being an overnight train, no one was in a hurry to get to their destination.
