Union Pacific 1971 Calendar

Union Pacific’s 1971 calendar was back to twelve pages, with no extras showing December 1970 or the full year for 1971 and 1972. Those twelve pages have all-new photos, none of which appeared on any menus before Amtrak took over in May and none of which are what I call clichés, meaning of scenes frequently used in the 1950s.

One photo shows an eastern scene: the Jefferson Arch in St. Louis. Another shows a scene in Alaska. A photo in Zion is unfortunately centered on a dirt road. Another shows Glacier Lake, deep in Oregon’s Eagle Cap Wilderness; I’ve been there, but it was a long time ago. Another photo shows a state park in Nebraska, one of the few Nebraska photos used on a UP calendar.

One of the reasons I wanted to document the calendar photos was to try to guess what photos might have been used on menu covers that I haven’t found yet. So far, I’ve identified 135 post-war color photo menus and 419 calendar photos (some of which were duplicates). This counts all years from 1940 through 1971 except 1941, 1942, 1946 (the Willmarth paintings), 1947, and 1969 (the Fogg paintings), and is also missing a handful of western (or, for 1964, eastern) photos from the 1960s calendars.
It is an extremely effective medication, and clinical studies have shown an amazingly high success rate with this cheap viagra in india medicine. This inflammatory response can be triggered by a pathogen or an antigen cheap no prescription viagra (allergy). IVF can be samples of levitra physically taxing on a woman, since it requires many blood tests, daily shots (some of which are painful) and frequent trips to the doctor. In purchase cheap levitra amerikabulteni.com 1993 some studies were conducted on many patients with panic disorder.
Of all these photos, about 65 were used on both calendars and menus. Absent from the calendars were all of the college photos, most of the San Francisco photos, and all of the Missouri/Nebraska photos. Most of national park photos on menu covers are also found in the calendars, along with about half of the Pacific Northwest, Southern California, and Sun Valley photos.

If any of the other calendar photos are to be found on menu covers, they might include coastal photos. The calendars include several photos of the Oregon and northern California coast, but the menus mainly have the coast south of San Francisco, which is completely different. Two calendar photos show Yosemite, and I’ve wondered why I haven’t found any post-war menus with that park, since it is featured on several pre-war menus. Crater Lake is also on a calendar and would have made a suitable menu cover.

Catalina Island was featured on at least two calendar pictures in the 1950s, and it also deserved a menu cover. Some of the 1960s calendar photos strayed from the overused views of Bryce-Great White Throne-Hoover Dam-Jackson Lake-Mount Hood-Sun Valley-&-Yellowstone. One shows an arch in Utah’s Escalante Canyon; another shows Colorado’s Garden of the Gods; others show Idaho’s Lake Pend Oreille and Lake Coeur d’Alene. These would have made excellent menu covers as well.

Finally, two calendar pages show Union Pacific depots in Omaha and Boise. Since we know of menus showing depots in Kansas City and Los Angeles, it seems logical that UP would have put the Boise and Omaha stations on menus. This is especially true for Omaha, UP’s home city, if only because there are so few other menus with Nebraska photos.

All this is just guesswork. I know for sure I am still missing a half dozen menus, and my experience is that I tend to discover two new menus for every missing menu I find. However, although I posted several new menus in August, I haven’t actually found any new ones since March, so there may not be that many more.
