American Bar Association Letterhead

The American Bar Association held its 51st annual meeting in Seattle in 1928, and Great Northern provided this special letterhead to ABA members traveling to and from the meeting. Not only does the letterhead mention the ABA, it is printed on nearly full-sized letter paper–actually 8.4″x10.9″–instead of the roughly half-sized sheets used for most on-board stationery.

The letterhead was accompanied by envelopes that were made of similar paper and had a similar Great Northern imprint, but did not say “American Bar Association.” It is possible that railroads printed special stationery for many different conventions, but this is the only one I have seen.
